Vanniya Kula Kshatriya" Chieftains/Feudatories during chola period

The "Vanniya Kula Kshatriya" Chieftains/Feudatories during chola period are as follows:

The "Kadavarayars" mentioned in the cholas inscriptions, as "Palli" and "Sambu Kulam" by caste.

The "Sambuvarayas" mentioned in the cholas inscriptions, as "Palli", "Vanniyan" and "Sambu Kulam".

The "Malayamans" (Chedirayars) mentioned in more than 10 cholas inscriptions, as "Vanniyan", "Vanniya Nayan" and "Vanniar" (very close relatives of Sambuvarayas).

The "Paluvettaraiyar" mentioned in the cholas incriptions/copper plate, as "Kerala Kings" (Cheras}, and the relatives of "Mazhavars" & "Kolli Mazhavars" (Ori king line). Many of their kings name such as "Kandan Maravan" means the "The real warrior". The "Tundanadudaiyar" of 10th century A.D. mentioned in the cholas inscriptions, as "Palli" by caste and they are considered at par with "Vanagovaraiyar".

The "Mazhavarayars" mentioned in the cholas inscriptions as the close relatives of imperial cholas and the year 1511 A.D. copper plate refers them as "Vanniyas".Their descendants "Ariyalur Chieftains" mentioned in copper plate/documents/poems as "Palli" and "Vanniyan".

The "Vannadudaiyar" of 10th century A.D. mentioned in the cholas inscriptions as "Palli" and "Surutiman".

The "Irungolars" of 10th century A.D. mentioned in cholas as "Palli" and "Surutiman".

The "Pangalanattu Gangaraiyar" of Pallava/chola times mentioned in cholas inscriptions as "Vannian".

The "Nilagangaraiyar" mentioned in the cholas inscriptions/Later copper plates, as "Palli". "Vanniya Nayan" and "Sambu Kulam".

The "Vanagovaraiyars" mentioned in the cholas/Pandiyas inscriptions as "Palli". "Vanniyan".

The "Kadanthaiyar Chieftains" mentioned in the cholas inscriptions with the title "Mutharaiyar". They are "Palli" by caste according to "Aduthurai" cholas inscriptions. The year 1511 A.D. copper plate refers them as "Vanniyas" along with "Mazhavarayas".

3. "Pakkan Senni who was a son of Kuttan Pakkan (alias) Jayamkonda Chola Tunda Nadalvan, a palli of Karaikkadu"

4. "Nayan Tunda Nadalvan and his brother Kuttaperuman Arasur Nadalvan who had the kaval kani of Tirumalapadi sold their house site to an individual"

5. "Sambuvar Kula Pathi Pan Nattar"

6. "Nerkuppai Nadalvan Gunamudaiyan and his son Adaippu Tirukkaratturai Udaiyan Kunra Muttaraiyan, who were pallis and had kaval kani of the temple, gave 96 sheep for a lamp"

7. "The record refers to a meeting of the 'Palli Nattar' in Ugalur. It mentions about the heroic activities of the soldiers of 'Palli caste'during the invasion of one Periya vadugan (Hoysala King) who carried away the idols of the local siva temple to Dwarasamudram which were brought back by the soldiers and in appreciation of their service Kulothunga Chola conferred certain special previleges and honours on the 'Palli Nattar', to be performed for them on festival occasion in the temple. The honours were tying a silk cloth turben (pattu pari vattam) on the Pannattar and showing of an insignia called 'Pannattan Tambiran Parichinnam and Vandan Devargal Devan'. 

The record also indicates the area in which the palli caste people settled as 'Palligal Nadu' which was bordered by Pachchaimalai in the east, Viranarayana Pereri in the west, the Pennai river on the north and the Kaveri river in the south. The record also mentions the contributions made by the Palligal of this area to celebrate the festival in the temple. The record also mentions about the names of the soldiers who took part in the above war and had kani in Aykudi, Tongapuram, Olaippadi and Kurukkai"

King : Maravarman Parakrama Pandiya - I
Year : 1339 A.D
Place : Aduturai, Kumbakkonam

(Pandiya honoured the descendants of the war heroes after 250 years is
significant in history)

Like that several inscriptions refers the great "Vanniya Kula Kshatriyar" as "Nattar" and "Nadalvar".

"வன்னிய நாயக்கர்" பட்டம் கல்வெட்டு :

1. In the Cheyyar (Thiruvottur) inscription pertaining to Mara Varma Sundara Pandiyan says the following :-

"வன்னிய நாயக வேளான்" (one of the sabha member of Thiruvaipadi)


2. In the Villupuram District, Aasur Thiruvaleeswarar koil inscription pertaining to Vijayanagara King "Vira     Bukkanna Udaiyar" (1379 A,D) says the following :-

"வன்னிய நாயக்கமார்" (Avanam-12, July-2001, Page 6-8)

3. In the Pudukkottai District, kalappur Mayilapatti inscription pertaining to Sundara Pandiya says the following :-

"மஹாபிரதானி மண்டலிக குமாரர் வன்னிய வேட்டைக்காரன்
மல்லைய தொண்ட நாயக்கர் மருமகனார்" (Avanam-13, Year-2002, Page-23)

4. In the Kanchipuram, Varadaraja Perumal koil inscription (1270 A.D) pertaining to Vijaya Ganda Gopala Devar (Telugu Chola) says the following :-

"காஞ்சிபுரத்து திருவத்தியூர் நின்றருளின அருளாளப்பெருமாளுக்கு
மலைமண்டலத்து நாயக்கன்மாரில்ப் பள்ளி நாராயணன் கண்டநேன்
வைத்த திருநந்தாவிளக்கு" (A.R.E. No.429 of 1919).

கடந்த ஜூன் -26, 2014 அன்று திருவண்ணாமலை கலை கல்லூரியில் நடைப்பெற்ற "தீவுகோட்டை சோழர்கள் " பற்றிய சொற்ப்பொழிவு ..

அண்ணல் கண்டர் அவர்கள் பங்கேற்று சொற்ப்பொழிவு ஆற்றினார் .

இது சர்வதேச அளவில் "POST GRADUATE AND RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY " என்ற தலைப்பில் நடைப்பெற்ற கருத்தரங்கம் .







திருவள்ளுவர் பல்கலைகழகம் , சென்னை பல்கலைகழகம் மற்றும் மதுரை பல்கலைகழகம் துணைவேந்தர்கள், மற்றும் பன்னாட்டு அறிஞர்கள் தலைமையில் நடந்த கருத்தரங்கம் இது .






சோழர்களின் வாரிசுகளாக அறியப்படும் இன்றும் வாழும் சோழனார் குடும்பத்தை பற்றிய செய்திகளையும், தீவுகோட்டை வரலாறுகளையும் கேட்டறிய அண்ணல் கண்டர் அவர்களுக்கு வரவேற்ப்பு தந்து சொற்ப்பொழிவு ஆற்றவைத்தனர் .

இப்போது அந்த சொத்துக்களை பல சமூகத்தவர்கள் கொள்ளையடிக்கின்றனர் என்பது வேதனையான விஷயம்

இலங்கையில் உள்ள யாழ்ப்பாண பல்கலைகழகத்தில் பணிபுரியும் பேராசிரியர் திரு.புஸ்பரட்ணம் என்பவர் யாழ்ப்பாண பல்கலைகழகம் வரலாற்றுத்துறை தலைவர் ஆவார் .

இவர் "தமிழரின் பூர்வீக வரலாற்றை வெளிச்சத்திற்கு கொண்டுவரும் சில தொல்லியற் சான்றுகள்" என்னும் பெயரில் "செட்டிகுளத்தில் வன்னியர் குடியேற்றம் " என்ற தலைப்பில் ஒரு ஆய்வு மேற்கொண்டுள்ளார் .

செட்டிகுளம் என்பது இலங்கை பகுதியாகும் . பண்டார வன்னியனின் வவுனியா பகுதிக்கு அருகாமை இது /

இந்த ஆய்வில், இலங்கையில் ஆட்சி செய்த வன்னிய சிற்றரசர்கள், தமிழ் நிலத்தில் வடதமிழ்நாடு எனப்படும் தொண்டைமண்டல பகுதில் மிக அதிகமாக காணப்படும் வன்னியர் சாதியினரே . இவர்கள் சோழர் படையில் பெரும்பாலும் இருந்தமையால், இவர்களே சோழர் படைகொண்டு இலங்கையில் குடியமர்ந்து ஆட்சி புரிந்தனர் என்று நிரூபித்துள்ளார் ..

இதற்க்கு ஆதாரமாக ஆங்கிலேயர் செய்திகளையும், இலங்கை வரலாற்று துறை ஆய்வாளர் திரு பத்மநாதன் அவர்களின் ஆய்வையும் மேற்கொண்டுள்ளார்.

இச்செய்தி "கலை கேசரி " என்னும் இலங்கை இதழில் வெளிவந்துள்ளது .
